More than 24,000 people from 42 states have signed up to receive tickets to see India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York next month on September 22, reports the Hindustan Times.
The event will be held in Uniondale at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, an arena that seats just 15,000.
It’s unclear how it will be decided who will get tickets. It is being organized by Indo-American Community of USA, a non-profit organization that seeks to unite the Indo-American community through cultural events and public programs.
More than 590 community organizations are helping to promote the event.
“We’re dedicated to ensuring maximum participation in this historic event,” said an event organizer. “We are working to expand seating arrangements and will collaborate with our Welcome Partners to prioritize seating for those who confirm their attendance.”
Modi plans to address the crowd during the same trip where he will speak at the United Nation’s Summit of the Future on September 26, the Economic Times reported.
Earlier this week, he received a call from President Biden to discuss the Russian-Ukraine War, according to India Today. Biden praised Modi for his “message of peace and ongoing humanitarian support for Ukraine.”
The UN describes the summit as a “high level event” to bring together world leaders to discuss the security for the future.
