Korean American tennis player Jessica Pegula lost the U.S. Open final on Saturday after two close sets.
She was defeated by no. 2 seed Aryna Sabelenka, with the match ending 7-5, 7-5. It was her first Grand Slam final.
During the second set, Pegula was up 5-3, but Sabelenka found a way to come back. After the final, Pegula admitted she wasn’t consistent enough and complemented Sabelenka’s play.
“Was able to find some good tennis, just wasn’t quite able to sustain it,” she said per ESPN. “She played some big tennis in some big moments.”
Sabelenka also praised Pegula’s performance.
“You’re showing some amazing tennis,” Sabalenka said after the match per NBC News.
