A new poll released today provides further details as to why among Muslim voters, Green Party candidate Jill Stein is neck and neck with Vice President Kamala Harris.
While Stein will likely not win the presidential race, she could have an impact in key battleground states where Harris is struggling with Muslim voters due to the U.S. support of Israel in the Israel Gaza War.
Muslim voters aren’t large enough to “sway the election,” they “can sure tip the results,” said Robert McCaw, the Council of American-Islamic Relations’ director of Government Affairs this morning.
The poll of 1500 Muslim voters conducted by the research firm Molitico on behalf of CAIR released earlier found 29.4% of Muslim voters plan to vote for Harris, 29.1% for Stein and 11% for Trump.
Today’s follow up poll conducted immediately after the Democratic Convention took a deeper dive into the earlier results.
Particularly troubling for Harris are results from the key battleground states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona where Stein leads Harris in all three states.
In Michigan 40% plan to vote for Stein and just 12% for Harris.
In Wisconsin, Stein leads Harris 44-39%.
In Arizona, Stein leads Harris 35 – 29%.
Muslim voters are particularly a strong voting bloc in Michigan where there are 200,000 Muslim voters, according to CNN.
In Wisconsin, there are about 25,000 Muslim voters in a state Biden won by 20,000.
In Arizona, there are also 25,000 Muslim voters in a state Biden won by just 10,500 votes in 2020.
Among Asian Muslim voters, the poll found 28% say they will vote for Harris, 25.7% plan to vote for Stein and just 12.6% for Trump.
Harris is extremely strong among Black Muslim voters with 55.3% lining up with Harris, 11.2% for Stein and 9.8% for Trump.
On the other hand, 32.7% of White Muslim voters says they will vote for Stein, 25.6% for Harris and 12.8% for Trump.
CAIR says its sample size is insufficient among Latino and Native American voters, so it is not emphasizing those findings. However, the poll found overwhelming support for Stein among both groups.
It’s important to point out that 16.5% of Muslim voters are still undecided.
“We have 100s of thousands of Muslim voters, we’re going to see a lot of action of 3rd party candidates having influence on the election,” said McCaw.
