Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has made history yet again.
On Thursday, during a game against the Miami Marlins, Ohtani became the first Major League Baseball star to record 50 home runs and 50 steals in a single season, Vox reports.
The Dodgers dominated that night, winning the game 20-4. Ohtani had three home runs that night, bringing his total up to 51 for the season.
“To be honest, I’m the one probably most surprised,” Ohtani said through an interpreter per ESPN. “I have no idea where this came from, but I’m glad that I performed well today.”
Despite not pitching, Ohtani is having a stellar season with the Dodgers. According to CNN, he’s still the favorite to win the National League MVP award. If he wins, he would be the first player to do so solely as a designated hitter.
His teammates marveled at his accomplishment on Thursday.
“I almost cried, to be honest with you,” shortstop Miguel Rojas said per ESPN. “It was a lot of emotion, because of everything that happens behind the scenes that we get to witness every single day. It’s a pretty cool moment. We all know what he’s capable of doing, but for him to reach that mark — it’s pretty amazing.”
