GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump received a boost in the battleground state of Michigan Sunday.
He received the endorsement from Democratic Mayor Amer Ghalib of Hamtramck, the only city in the U.S. with an all-Muslim city council.
The endorsement highlights the discontent among Muslim voters over the Biden administration’s handling of the Israeli-Gaza War.
“Though it’s looking good, he may or may not win the election and be the 47th president of the United States,” Ghalib said in a statement on Facebook. “I’ll not regret my decision no matter what the outcome would be, and I’m ready to face the consequences. For this, and for many other reasons, I announce my support and endorsement for the former, and hopefully, the next president of the United States, Donald Trump.”
According to Al Jazeera, Biden beat Trump in Michigan by just 150,000 votes in 2020. The president flipped the state back to Democrats after Trump beat Hillary Clinton in 2016.
A recent poll conducted by the research firm Molitico on behalf of the Council on American-Islamic Relations found 40% of Muslims say they will vote for third party candidate Jill Stein with Harris getting just 12% support.
Among Asian Muslim voters, the poll found 28% say they will vote for Harris, 25.7% plan to vote for Stein and just 12.6% for Trump.
Ghalib’s endorsement of Trump comes one week after the two met.

It’s their choice, which I think is a bad one at the end.
