Apl.de.Ap, the founder of the Black Eyed Peas, received the key to Carson City, California, in honor of Filipino American History Month.
According to FOX 40, Carson City Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes presented the key to Apl in front of a standing-room-only crowd in the council chambers.
“It is with pride that we present the Key to our City to Apl.de.Ap and the Apl.de.Ap Foundation International,” Davis-Holmes said, per FOX 40. “Apl’s journey, marked by innovation and philanthropy, resonates deeply with the spirit of our City. Today, Carson is not merely presenting a Key, but opening the door to endless possibilities, celebrating greatness and cultural unity.”
Apl received the honor for his contribution to the Filipino American community in Carson City, which is home to over 100,000 Filipino Americans. His philanthropy the Apl.de.Ap Foundation International is committed to improving the lives of struggling people throughout the world. According to ABS CBN, he also often provides his musical services to events free of charge.
“Happy Filipino American History Month and this is the best place to start the first day,” Apl said at the ceremony per ABS CBN. “…I can’t wait to share some of the projects from Apl.de.ap Foundation that we’ve been working on from Philippines to here.”
