The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar lineup includes Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Will Smith.
Yet the Most Valuable Player who gets the most credit for catapulting them to the World Series is utility player Tommy Edman.
During the just completed National League Championship Series, he had 11 hits and 11 RBIs- including a two-run homer in the third inning in the clinching game six Sunday night. When all was done, he got to hoist the MVP trophy as the series Most Valuable Player.
For the utility player whose mother is Korean, this is a comeback story.
He battled injury all season and when the Dodgers traded for him in mid-season, he had not appeared in a single game.
“It’s been a crazy journey. Early in the year, I never would have thought I’d be in this situation today,” Edman said, reported USA Today.
Teammate Shohei Ohtani gave Edman his props after the game.
“Tommy, I think, clearly is the MVP,” Shohei Ohtani said. “He does things – not just this whole postseason – but during the regular season, contributing in places where it doesn’t really reflect on the stat line.”
Edman and his wife Kristen welcomed their first child just last year.
