Scott Baugh leads Dave Min in California District 47

By Randall Yip, Executive Editor

Former State Assemblymember Scott Baugh (R) takes the lead from California State Senator Dave Min (D- Irvine, CA) with 71% of the vote counted for the California District 47 House race.

The two are trying to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Katie Porter (D-Orange County) in a pivotal race that could determine which party controls the House in the next Congress.

With 71% of the vote counted, Baugh leads Min with 130, 219 votes to 127, 209.

Min supports a woman’s right to choose an abortion and stricter gun laws. Baugh opposes abortion but says each state should decide the issue. He also believes there are enough gun laws in the books.

“You can outlaw an AR-15 16 times — it’s not going to change what’s happening out there. The gun laws are on the books, we just need to enforce them,” Baugh said to Fox11

“We make it so easy that 13-year-olds can get an arsenal of AR-15s and Glocks — weapons that, in other countries, are reserved for soldiers,” Min said.

Min is a first generation Korean American. He told the Orange County Register that companies found guilty of price gouging and market manipulation should be prosecuted. He wants to see electric transmission lines underground and would fund the clearing of brush as ways to reduce wildfire risks.

Baugh believes the federal government is spending enough money and wants to bring the budget deficit under control.
