Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown Wednesday used an anti-Asian slur to describe Notre Dame’s Charles Du on social media Wednesday.
Brown posted his comment under an ESPN post on X showing Du wearing a jersey emblazoned with his name in Chinese characters during the Sugar Bowl.
Brown’s comments were blasted on social media as racist, but also encouraged by others who piled on Du with bigoted comments of their own.
Du joined the Fighting Irish as a walk on player. He played high school ball in California and is originally from Beijing.
Notre Dame won the Sugar Bowl 23-10 over Georgia and will now advance to the semi-finals against Penn State in the College Football playoffs.
(Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified Brown’s position during his career)
