Moana 2 continues to break box office records as it marks its place as one of the top 10 highest-grossing animated films of all time.
Moana 2 was released on Nov. 27 and has made over $404 million in North America as of Dec. 31, per Collider. This has made Moana 2 the 10th-biggest domestic gross for an animated movie, beating Frozen, which made $400 million at the box office. Thanks to the holiday season, the film’s final haul is expected to be $470 million, putting Moana 2 sixth on the list while beating films such as Toy Story 3 and The Lion King.
The film has made $900.6 million worldwide and is expected to hit the $1 billion mark. This trumps the box office success of its predecessor which made $687.2 million, and could potentially overtake Despicable Me 4’s $961 million to become the second-highest-grossing animated film of 2024. However, despite the box office success, Moana 2 has been met with lukewarm reviews since its release.
A live-action adaptation of Moana is currently in production and is expected to be released on Jul. 10, 2026, per CBR.
