Did Elon Musk make the Nazi salute at Trump inaugural rally?

Controversy erupted after Tesla CEO Elon Musk made what appeared to be a Nazi salute from the stage of the Trump inaugural celebration at the Capital Arena Monday.

This video shows him doing it twice.

Musk gave more than a quarter-billion dollars to the Trump campaign and heads the president’s new Department of Government Efficiency.

Jarrett Renshaw, a reporter for Reuters, pointed out the similarities between the Nazi greeting and Musk’s gestures to the crowd on X.

It took place in front of 20,000 Trump followers and a live television audience.

However, some say the gesture was meant to extend his heart to the audience, noting that Musk followed the gesture by holding his hand on his heart and saying “my heart goes out to you.”

Musk himself dismissed the uproar saying “Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired.”

The ADL also issued a statement asking people not to rush to judgment, according to the Jerusalem Post.

“It seems that Elon Musk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people are on edge. In this moment, all sides should give one another a bit of grace, perhaps even the benefit of the doubt, and take a breath,” the statement read.

But Mike Stuchbery, a journalist in Germany stated “I studied the Nazis at university, taught the history of Nazi Germany on two continents and wrote for major newspapers about Nazi Germany. I am internet famous for fact-checking chuds on the history, ideology and policy of Nazi Germany. That was a Nazi salute.”

Trump himself ignited controversy by pardoning 1500 people, including those who physically assaulted and injured police officers along with the White supremacist Proud Boys, for their roles in the January 6th insurrection.

“Six individuals who assaulted me as I did my job on January 6 … will now walk free,” DC police officer Michael Fanone told CNN on Monday. “Six individuals who threatened my life and threatened my family members … My family, my children and myself are less safe today because of Donald Trump and his supporters.”

  1. Elon Musk is not of Asian descent. Associating him and his actions, like Nazi salute, to Asian Americans could make it even more dangerous to be Asian with the upcoming administration.
