In an effort to stamp out diversity, equity and inclusion programs, President Trump is asking federal workers to report any efforts to “disguise” DEI programs in the federal government.
“We are aware of efforts by some in government to disguise these programs by using coded or imprecise language,” said a memo, according to Reuters.
The move comes as Trump issued an executive order overturning diversity, equity and inclusion programs and putting any employees working in such programs on paid administrative leave, Vox reported.
The Office of Management and Budget has been directed to end anything that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion throughout the federal government.
But those efforts don’t end there.
He’s also asked the Justice Department to identify those in both the private and non-profit sector “the most egregious and discriminatory DEI practitioners” in the private sector.
“The message is clear: this administration is willing to sacrifice both civil rights and economic growth to advance an extremist agenda,” Noreen Farrell, executive director of Equal Rights Advocates said in a statement.
Dr. Robert Besser of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation also condemned the executive orders.
“It is unconscionable that the Trump administration would coopt the language and vision of the civil rights movement in these executive orders as it attempts to send our nation back to an era of rampant, state-sanctioned discrimination,” he said in a statement to AsAmNews. “Ultimately, these measures drive us farther away from a future when health is no longer a privilege, but a right for all.”
