Attorney General Rob Bonta, the first Filipino American elected state attorney general of California, has pulled out of the governor’s race.
The Inquirer reports that if Kamala Harris decides to run for governor, Bonta would support her.
“Kamala Harris would be a great governor,” Bonta said during an interview with Politico, reported the Washington Examiner.
He said that no candidate would be able to beat the former Vice President if she decided to get into the race.
So far Harris has not yet signaled her intentions, but she has remained visible in the state after her term ended as Vice President.
His senior adviser reiterated Bonta’s decision to KCRA in Sacramento.
Governor Gavin Newsom’s will be termed out of office at the end of 2027 and has set himself up as a challenger to President Trump. He is considered a contender for the Democratic nomination for President in 2028.
Bonta says he will run again for reelection as Attorney General.
