Pakistani authorities charged a father who police say admitted to killing his daughter because he objected to her TikTok videos.
Both Anwar ul-Haq and his daughter, Hira Anwar, are American citizens.
The shooting occurred in Quetta, Pakistan on Jan. 28, according to Voice of America. Haq initially told investigators that an unidentified gunmen had killed Anwar before he confessed to the murder the next day.
Police said they were investigating all angles, including a possible honor killing.
Haq moved his family back to Pakistan after living in the United States for 25 years, the BBC reported. The father reportedly found his daughter’s TikTok content “objectionable” while she was in the United States, along with her choice of clothes and lifestyle. Anwar continued to post videos after moving to Pakistan.
Investigators have the slain girl’s phone in their possession.
Aside from Haq, his brother-in-law was also arrested in connection to Anwar’s murder.
While anti-honor killing laws in Pakistan have been tightened since 2016, the practice — rooted in societal perceptions of familial dignity and shame — persists today. A man last October had killed four women in his family, including his mother, also citing their TikTok videos.

I think the headline should be “killed” or “shot and killed”.
