A Tennessee man has been convicted of killing his new wife while on their honeymoon and sentenced to life in prison.
According to CBS News, Bradley Dawson, 40, was convicted of killing his wife Christe Chen in December 2024. On February 11, in Fiji’s Lautoka High Court, he was sentenced to life in prison. He must serve 18 years before he can be considered for a pardon.
The murder happened over two years ago on July 9, 2022. According to PEOPLE Magazine, Dawson and Chen had been honeymooning for two days at the Turtle Island resort in the Yasawa archipelago in Fiji. Authorities say he inflicted serious, life-threatening injuries on Chen before abandoning her in the room.
According to the Fiji Times, Justice Riyaz Hamza said that Dawson intended to cause Chen’s death or was reckless as to causing it.
“Your conduct after the incident was appalling. Having inflicted serious and life-threatening injuries to the deceased you fled the scene of the crime, leaving the deceased alone and helpless in your bure. Her body was discovered several hours later,” Justice Hamza said per the Fiji Times.
