Jeremy Lin’s came home to the Bay Area for NBA All-Star Weekend as an honorary head coach for the Castrol Rising Stars tournament. Fans and players at All-Star Weekend recalled his inspirational Linsanity run.
Before Linsanity, the basketball star got his chance in the NBA Development League, now called the G-League. Fittingly, Lin coached the G-League team during the Castrol Rising Stars tournament.
“I think Jeremy Lin has an incredible story and I have an incredible amount of respect for him,” Mac McClung, a guard for the Osceola Magic in the G-League, said in a clip posted by the Osceola Magic social media team.
“You know just being able to be around him I might talk to him, pick his brain a little bit,” he added. “Just you know, guys like us, being prepared is everyday, your shot might come whenever… I’m honored to be around him.”
Lin had high praise for the G-League, including one of its stars Yuki Kawamura, who signed a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.
“All-Star at its core is a celebration of the NBA’s fans and the crazyyy talent and hard work of the players. Easily one of my highlights of being back this year was getting to meet @kawamurayuki_8,” Lin wrote in an Instagram post. “From winning MVP in the BLeague, dominating in the Olympics and now tearing up the GLeague, your skill and greatness has been undeniable and amazing to witness.”
