The White House this weekend removed scientific information about the COVID virus from government websites and replaced it with a page blaming the pandemic with never proven theories about a Wuhan lab leak.
Visitors to covid.gov and covidtests.gov are automatically redirected to Lableak. The true origins of COVID-19.
It includes President Trump’s image displayed prominently under the bolded words “Lab Leak.”
Trump came under intense criticism during his first term for referring to the coronavirus pandemic with racially charged terms such as “kung flu” and “China virus” with him saying the word “China” in a derisive tone.
The scientific community has largely been critical of the new website and the information it presents.
“Every one of the five pieces of evidence supporting the lab leak hypothesis … is factually incorrect, embellished, or presented in a misleading way,” virologist Angela Rasmussen wrote to NPR.
The site takes direct aim at President Biden and his chief medical adviser, Anthony Fauci who also was director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases during Trump’s first term.
“The Biden Administration’s HHS (Dept of Health and Human Services) engaged in a multi-year campaign of delay, confusion, and non-responsiveness in an attempt to obstruct the Select Subcommittee’s investigation and hide evidence that could incriminate or embarrass senior public health officials,” the new website reads. “It appears that HHS even intentionally under-resourced its component that responds to legislative oversight requests.”
It also criticizes Biden for pre-emptively pardoning Fauci, a move widely seen as a way to preventing Trump from charging Fauci with any crimes Trump associated with his work on the pandemic.
Fast Company, a business publication, says Lab Leak “is riddled with misleading and conspiratorial claims about the coronavirus, asserting that the virus leaking from a lab in Wuhan, China, is the “most likely” origin.”
The new White House site is critical of social distancing, mask mandates and lockdowns.
Under the heading misinformation, the site reads: “The Trump administration has been very clear that, in contrast to the previous administration, we WILL be the most transparent administration in U.S. history. Nothing will stop us from innovating and finding creative ways to uphold our end of the bargain.”
