Linda Lee Becomes first Korean American Rep. on NYC Council

Representative Linda Lee is New York City’s first Korean-American member of City Council, Patch reports. Lee was sworn in on Monday at City Hall.

Before she was elected to the city council, Lee was the president and CEO of Korean Community Services.

Lee will represent the 23rd District, which includes Bayside Hills, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Fresh Meadows, Glen Oaks, Hollis, Hollis Hills, Holliswood, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, Oakland Gardens and Queens Village.

According to her campaign website, Lee is the daughter of immigrant small business owners. She is an 11-year resident of Oakland Gardens. One of her goals is to help communities gain equitable access to resources.

Lee posted about her swearing-in ceremony on Twitter.

“Today was affirmation of my parent’s decision to build us a life here, my sons’ ability to do whatever they set their minds to, and of the countless sacrifices Jie made this past year,” Lee wrote.
