Asian American teenager dies during deadly park shooting

Law enforcement officials have released the name of the teenager who died during a deadly shooting at Ben Hawes Park in Owensboro, Kentucky.

According to 44 News, authorities have identified 16-year-old Gaymee Paw of Owensboro as the victim. The shooting happened Wednesday, June 21.

Investigators say Paw was shot in the head once. According to 14 News, authorities received 911 calls for a girl shot in the head around 12:30 p.m. First responders transported Paw to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital where she died shortly after.

Paw’s death has been ruled a homicide. Investigators believe Paw was shot by a 16-year-old boy she had once dated, Law & Crime reports. They have arrested the suspect and taken him into custody.

14 News has shared a video interview they did with Paw in 2017 while she was attending a soccer camp. In the video, she speaks about all the fun she is having.
