Radar On Line is reporting that NBC will not send Ann Curry (photo by Lia Chang, Asian Connections.) to cover the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
The decision is a bit curious since Curry strong international reporting credentials would make her a good fit to cover the political angle surrounding the games, especially with the controversy over Russia’s anti-gay law and the response to that.
On the other hand, this move is seen as an indication that Curry’s future at NBC may be limited with her contract expiring next year.
Curry’s relationship with Matt Lauer is still thought to be a bit icy, and with Today coming off its best week in a while, NBC may not want to risk sending Curry to such a high profile assignment.
