Police in New York are investigating the brutal beating of a Filipino American writer in Midtown Manhattan that some suspect was a hate crime.
ABC7 reports that Randy Gener, who is openly gay, was attacked at 4 a.m. January 17th as he left a party and was walking home.
Police found him unconscious with severe head trauma. He is now speaking, but cannot remember anything.
“He can’t answer the questions of what happened that night, he doesn’t really exactly know who we are or where he’s at sometimes,” said Gener’s sister, Jessica Blair Driessler, “and it’s really painful to see him here the way that he is because he’s the most articulate person.”
A candlelight vigil will be held for Gener in hopes of bringing attention to this crime and finding the attackers.
Nothing was taken from Randy leading some to suspect a bias attack.
