Last spring, a football player at Columbia University was arrested in an incident against an Asian American that some called a hate crime.
The Columbia Spectator reports the charge was eventually dismissed, but several tweets surfaced from members of the football team targeting Asian Americans.
In addition, Zaz Gilani blogged there is an undercurrent of racial division on campus that largely goes unnoticed.
She said comments like “Asians are ruining the curve” and “too many Asians” in the Science and Engineering Library are common.
These comments are not like many heard at campuses across the country.
What is behind this racism and what should be done about it? You can read a lot more in the Columbia Spectator.
