The family of a bullied Vietnamese American gay teen who committed suicide are vowing to prevent bullying of other gay teens. Nhuan and Phuong Phan say the boy’s school suspended their son just hours before he committed suicide. They say the school refused to explain the reason for their son’s suspension and says school officials brushed them off perhaps because of their accent.
The family has accused the school district of making offensive statements about their son, but say they have no interest in suing. More details of what lead up to the suicide and what may happen as a result can be found in this article in the Salt Lake City Tribune.
