North Jersey.com: Mochi Ice Cream Goes Mainstream

Mochi Ice CreamAmerican palates are enjoying the sweet smooth creamy taste of mochi ice cream, reports North Jersey.com.

According to the article, the first mochi brand in the United States was Mikawaya. It was developed in the 90s and is now available at Trader Joe’s.

It is one of three such companies. Bubbies and Mt Fuji are the other two.

Mt Fuji says it produces 40,000 pieces of mochi ice cream a day and is now the company’s top seller among its Japanese sweets.

It is produced in a three step process.  The mochi is made by mixing sweet rice flour, water, starch and sugar. The ice cream is made separately and is eventually wrapped with mochi shells.

You can read about how the popularity of mochi ice cream came about in North Jersey.com.
