A show executive produced by Daniel Dae Kim has been picked up by ABC.
Deadline reports that Good Doctor, which was inspired by a South Korean program, will star Freddie Highmore.
Irene Keng will play the role of Dr. Sarah Chen.
Although there’s no indication any Asian Americans will play a starring role in this drama, it’s great to see an AAPI take such a big role behind the scenes.
Kim signed a development deal with CBS several years ago, and Good Doctor was supposed to be the first show he developed for that network.
It appears that CBS has backed off from the program and ABC has stepped in.
Not surprisingly, Dr. Ken has been cancelled by ABC. The show which featured Ken Jeong as both the star and the program’s executive producer aired its final original episode March 31. The program had a feeling of finality, as Dr. Ken announced he had accepted a role on a TV show and would be leaving the hospital.
If the show had continued, it would have had to undergo a major shift and bring in many new cast members.
Also cancelled was Powerless starring Vanessa Hudgens. The show already had been removed from the schedule by NBC, despite three unaired episodes. Yesterday’s announcement, just made it official, according to Comic Book Movie.
