Filipino Christmas Parade in Los Angeles

Christmas card manger

LA’s Filipinotown is looking a lot like Christmas. Marchers paraded with parols or star shaped lanterns down the street Friday night.  Celebrants were served lechon or roasted pig along with a sweet ginger drink known as Salabat, according to a report in the LA Times. A Filipino chicken congee rounded out the meal.  The annual parade is a tradition carried on by the Neighborhood Council & the Burlington Nursery School.

The parols used were different from traditional ones. Instead of candles, these parols were powered by electric lights.

What traditions does your families follow during the holidays?
