Members of Illinois South Asian & Sikh community joined with political and religious leaders in a moment of silence to honor the 26 victims of the Newtown massacre. The Daily Herald reports the forum was scheduled long before Friday’s horrendous shooting.
The forum was held to commend Illinois for passing a resolution denouncing hate crimes in the wake of the shooting at the Sikh temple in Wisconsin back in August.
“It’s an opportunity to bring the conversation back out into the public and make sure that it doesn’t get hidden away,” said State Rep. Michelle Mussman of Schaumburg. “We can’t pretend this does not happen here. That’s the bigger strength of this resolution.”
What should the United States be doing to stem the tide of violence in this country?
