Garden Island: Why Baseball Will Be One of Lasting Legacies of Senator Daniel Inouye

baseballSenator Daniel Inouye who died earlier this month from respiratory failure after five decades in Congress fought hard to prove the loyalty of Japanese Americans to the United States.

“One of the results of that is the AJA Baseball program in Hawai‘i, which is celebrating its 83rd season,” Gerald Ako told The Garden Island.

“If Sen. Inouye did not do what he did, we would all be stepchildren.”

AJA is the Americans of Japanese Ancestry Baseball.

Organizers say its as important to see AJA continue for Japanese Americans as is the tradition of bon dances for the preservation of Japanese culture.
