New data from the FBI shows that hate crimes against Muslim Americans is on the rise. Reported incidents surged in 2010 to 160 and 157 in 2011. That’s a 50 percent increase from when incidents dropped for the first time since 9/11. The Department of Justice adds that hate crimes are significantly under reported and suspects the actual numbers are more than 15 times higher. In other words, for every high profile case such as the Hindu man who was pushed to his death into an oncoming New York subway train there are 15 other cases that go unreported. A blog in MPN blames the increased hate speech by such people as Pamella Geller & Robert Spencer and the billboard campaigns in major cities comparing Muslim Americans to savages as a possible reason for the surge. It called on Americans to speak out to end the anti-Muslim rhetoric and violence.
