The motive behind the murder of a former Asian American basketball star and her fiance in Irvine near Los Angeles remains a mystery tonight, reports the LA Times.
The body of Monica Quan and her boyfriend Keith Lawrence were found shot dead in a parked car at an exclusive condominium project. Quan was the assistant basketball coach at Cal State Fullerton and a star on her high school team in Walnut.
“I’m sorry we’re gathered here today for news like this,” Fullerton head women’s basketball coach Marcia Foster said at a campus news conference. “There just aren’t words.”
No gunshots were heard, and robbery is not believed by police to be the motive, said police.
Quan’s father Randal was the police chief at Cal Poly Pomona and also was a captain with the Los Angeles Police Department.
