As many as one million people are expected to line the streets of Downtown San Francisco and Chinatown for the annual Chinese New Year Parade this Saturday. Millions more are expected to watch the live broadcast on television.
As usual the grand finale will be the special dragon which will be ushered in with hundreds of firecrackers set off on every block of the parade to ward off evil spirits. Last year’s dragon measured 201 feet long. Parade organizers promise this year’s dragon will be just as spectacular.
Children’s groups, martial artists, festive cultural costumes, the Miss Chinatown court, marching bands and specially designed floats will add to the celebration.
