Los Angeles Times: SoCal Shopping Malls Appeal to Asian Customers

Lion DanceShopping malls in Southern California are luring Asian customers with multilingual services and traditional dragon decorations during the Year of the Snake holiday season.

Desert Hills Premium Outlets, Ontario Mills and the Outlets at Orange launched a “Snaking through Southern California” marketing strategy to attract Chinese shoppers, reported the Los Angeles Times.

Stores in South Coast Plaza even hired Asian employees to accommodate the increasing flow of tourists from China, Japan and South Korea.

Shopping centers in the cities that have a significant population of Asian Americans host Lunar New Year festivals to cater to this demographic. Westfield Santa Anita in Arcadia whose population is 50% Asian Americans is celebrating this holiday Saturday afternoon for the first time with lion dance and Chinese calligraphy demonstrations.
