City leaders in San Francisco joined together with members of the Muslim American community to condemn the latest anti-Muslim ad campaign by Pamela Geller (pictured here) and the American Freedom Defense Initiative, reports KGO-TV,
The ad feature Osama bin Laden and the burning World Trade Center accompanied by the words “That’s his jihad, what’s yours?”
“We’re standing here together; there is no place in San Francisco for bigotry and racism,” San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon said.
The Council On American-Islamic Relations spokesperson Zahra Billoo said the campaign “undermines the fabric of multi-culturalism.”
Geller’s group paid $5,000 for the one month ad campaign on ten San Francisco Muni buses. The city says the money will be used to fund a study on the impact of discrimination on the Muslim community.
In New York, the city at first refused to run similar ads from Geller’s group, but relented after losing a lawsuit over the issue.
“We don’t think it’s right to use taxpayer money to litigate over AFDI’s First Amendment rights,” Muni spokesperson Paul Rose said.
