The New York Police Department has been conducting its clandestine spying operation on Muslim Americans for more than ten years, and the department admits the operation has generated zero leads. That’s right, not one.
The Atlantic decided to examine the injury this operation has inflicted on Muslim Americans and the list is a long one.
I’ll detail just some of them here.
–Students wouldn’t come to pray in the prayer room because they were terrified at being under surveillance.
–A young man left the mosque for a year after discovering he had been befriends by an undercover NYPD officer.
–Parents tell their children not to participate in any Muslim Student Association activities for fear they will be under surveillance
–Muslim religious leaders are afraid to provide one on one counseling fearing there every word is being listened to
–Muslim Americans are becoming paranoid, suspicious that the store clerk, their neighbor or new friend may be an undercover spy.
