Two weekends showcasing the rich heritage of Japanese and Japanese Americans gets underway this weekend in San Francisco’s Japantown.
Rafu Shimpo reports 200,000 people are expected at the Northern California annual Cherry Blossom Festival. Scheduled festivities during the two weekend festival include sword and martial arts exhibitions ; the two day US-Japan Taiko Concert; bonsai, origami and caligraphy demonstrations; a Queen’s pageant & a kid’s corner featuring Hello Kitty, arts, crafts and games.
Film screenings taking place both weekend. “J, Robot,” a documentary about robot technology in Japan will be shown at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center on April 14th. The following weekend on April 20 it’s the premier of Kerwin Berk’s “Infinity and Chashu Ramen,” a film shot entirely in Japantown.
