Sri Srinivasan is still undergoing a tough confirmation hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee for a seat on the Federal Court of Appeals, but already he’s been mentioned as a possible contender for a seat on the US Supreme Court, reports the Times of India.
“Technically, Sri Srinivasan is just a candidate for the United States court of appeals for the DC circuit, but few are misled. The stakes in this nomination are clear: if Srinivasan passes this test and wins confirmation, he’ll be on the supreme court before President Obama’s term ends,” legal maven Jeffrey Toobin wrote on Tuesday in a New Yorker blog, ahead of the much-awaited hearing.
It’s the same sort of talk when people discuss California Attorney General Kamala Harris.
Tom Goldstein who follows the Supreme Court for his blog, SCOTUS, wrote: “Taking all of the criteria into account, as things stand now, there is only one candidate who otherwise fits the bill of the ideal nominee: Kamala Harris.”
