A government watchdog group is questioning the large amount of cash donations being contributed to the campaign of John Liu (pictured here) for New York City mayor, reports the Daily News.
Liu has received $65,000 in cash donations, that’s four times more than the candidate with the second highest cash contributions, City Council speaker Christine Quinn.
“With the campaign’s funny money issues, it’s unfathomable that so many contributions are in cash,” said Dick Dadey, of Citizens Union. “Cash is not traceable or verifiable.”
The cash contributions are particularly drawing scrutiny after the conviction of two of Liu’s aides last week for circumventing campaign finance laws. Liu was not charged in the case.
