A Sikh man beaten outside his temple while he volunteered there remains in a Fresno, California hospital ten days after the horrendous crime, reports Sikh 24.
81-year old Piara Singh (pictured here) suffered injuries to his head and a punctured lung after being beaten with a steel rod.
The suspected was arrested a short time later and charged with attempted murder.
“We are grateful to Fresno Police for rapidly responding to this tragedy,” said Simran Kaur, Advocacy Manager for the Sikh Coalition. “We hope that Mr. Piara Singh recovers fully and quickly and that his attacker is prosecuted under state and federal hate crime laws.”
The Sikh coalition says Sikh Americans are 100 times more likely to be victims of a hate crime than other Americans.
