The story of undocumented Asian Americans has rarely been told. But a new theater group debuting Monday hopes to change that. The NY Daily News reports a group known as RAISE–Revolutionizing Asian American Immigrant Stories on the East Coast- is kicking off the new theater group, UndocuAsians.
1.3 million of the nation’s 11.5 million undocumented immigrants come from Asian countries.
“It’s not an issue that’s very broadly talked about within the Asian-American community until very recently, because there’s such a culture of silence that surrounds the issue,” community organizer Hong Mei Pang explained.
“We’re out here and we want people to understand our unique struggles,” she said.
