The US Senate has unanimously confirmed Srikanth Sri Srinivasan to the nation’s second highest court, the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, reports the Economic Times.
Srinivasan is the first South Asian American ever to be confirmed to the federal court. His appointment was overwhelmingly praised by members of the Indian American and South Asian American community.
“He will be an outstanding, fair-minded judge. This is a historic moment for all Indian Americans and Asian Americans, and it’s a fitting way to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month this May,” said Rep Ami Bera, the only Indian American currently in Congress.
Sri will offer a unique perspective and added diversity that is long overdue in our justice system,” said Rep Tulsi Gabbard, the first Hindu lawmaker in the US Congress.
