Ashley Perez is Cuban, Filipino and Korean American. She moved to Daegu, South Korea to teach English to fourth graders and quickly learned a lesson about the artificial standards of beauty adopted by some in that country, according to the Daily Mail.
Perez wrote in the Buzzfeed that she was ridiculed for her very big’ U.S. size 8 body, ‘too dark’ skin tone, and ‘plain face’ features.
Of course that’s the opinion of a country which has become the plastic surgery capital of the world.
“In my case, I was too tall, too fat, and too dark — traits that are not typically considered beautiful by Korean standards,’ she wrote. ‘In many ways, being partially Korean actually made my experience more difficult than that of my foreign white friends.’
