The granddaughter of Thurgood Marshall is continuing her grandfather’s legacy of civil rights, reports Diversity in Higher Education.
Cecilia Marshall is now director of general scholarships for the Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund.
Her grandfather’s passion for social justice sticks with her today.
“He didn’t bring his work home but always felt there was so much more that we as a society had to do to achieve equality,” she says of her grandfather. “He taught me that we can all do better.”
Marshall says working in the APIA community is helping her get in touch with her roots. Her grandmother is an Hawaiian-born Filipina.
