Representative Mike Honda (D- DA) is trying a new strategy to get the Japanese government to both acknowledge and apologize for the enslavement of women for the sexual gratitude of the Japanese military during World War II, reports Asahi Shimbun.
Known as comfort women, the women were taken against their will from such Asian countries as Korea and the Philippines.
Honda says is is “encouraging state legislatures to pass resolutions” similar to the one he successfully got passed in the House in 2007 that called on the Japanese government to accept responsibility and apologize for what was done to the comfort women.
