The Service Employees International Union is calling for solidarity with the struggles of workers in Bangladesh as they push for international protection.
“We are identifying with Bangladeshi garment workers as we’ve identified with South African workers.” Mary Kay Henry, President of SEIU: “We will stand with Bangladeshi workers every step of the way til we bring Walmart & Gap to their senses.” Henry said at the Rainbow PUSH Labor Breakfast in Chicago.
As AsAmNews previously reported, several major clothing retailers including WalMart, Sears, and Gap are being pressured to sign an international according protecting the rights of Bangladeshi workers.
The push comes following a fire in Bangladesh that killed more than 1,100 workers.
