For the first time, Republicans held a large event at the Capitol reaching out to the Korean American community, reports the Korea Times.
More than 200 Korean Americans attended the event organized by the House Republican leadership.
The event was attended by Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor, among others.
Today’s event is an exciting opportunity to open a dialogue between members of Congress and their Korean American constituents on the issues that matter most,” said Rep Ed Royce (R-CA), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Royce criticized the Japanese government for trying to whitewash the historic atrocities against comfort women in World War II.
