The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and Arts is seeking artists to create sculptures to honor the late Senator Daniel Inouye and the late Representative Patsy Mink, reports the Sacramento Bee.
Inouye was the highest ranking Asian American politician when he died last year after serving in Congress since 1959.
Mink died in 2002 after serving 12 terms in the House of Representatives. She also ran for President in 2002, becoming the first Asian American ever to run for the Democratic nomination for the nation’s highest office.
Hawaii’s state legislature authorized $250,000 for each sculpture to go near the state capitol.
