The Seattle-area family of a Filipino veteran who survived the Bataan Death March is pleading with a burglar to return his war medals, reports KOMO.
“He had been bayoneted or shot in the leg, and at one point he had been left for dead. The Japanese were going to cover him over with dirt,” said his son-in-law, Russell Telling.
95-year old Calvin Neis was awarded the Bronze Medal for Bravery.
Three people have been arrested and other items stolen during the burglary have been recovered. Also still missing is Neis’ military memorabilia.
“That changes from just being a break-in to something more personal,” Telling said. “And this was an attack on a veteran, somebody who has served their country.”
You can hear from Neis’ daughter and wife in this story from KOMO.
