Community groups have been fighting the controversial retailer since it announced plans to open. Many fear it will change the character of the ethnic neighborhood. Others fear it will drive some small businesses out of business. However, some welcome it for its discounted prices and job opportunities.
Walmart seems to draw fire every time it tries to open in a new location. Labor group say the retail giant offers low wages and minimal benefits. A lawsuit was filed in April to try to stop it.
