A new 770 pound Friendship and Peace Bell from South Korea will be unveiled tomorrow in Downtown Los Angeles, reports LA Downtown News.
The bell is part of Good Samaritan Hospital’s sister facility relationship with Seoul’s Severance Hospital at Yonsei University Medical Center.
“Many Korean people have benefited by this hospital and the friendship for 128 years,” said George Chey, founder of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce in Los Angeles. “Korea is still divided, north and south. But we can hope for peace, and someday make one Korea.”
Chey says nearly 600,000 Korean Americans live in Southern California.
The Friendship and Peace Bell will ring to celebrate everything from New Year’s Day to Flag Day. Coincidentally, tomorrow is Korean Independence Day in Korea.
