The Baltimore Sun is reporting via Reuters that Academy Award winning anime director Hayao Miyazaki is retiring.
He is best known for his 1993 Oscar-winning hit Spirited Away, but he’s also earned a cult following in the United States for such films as Kiki’s Delivery Service and Princess Mononoke.
His studio announced at a news conference at the Venice Film Festival that The Wind Rises will be his last movie.
Miyazaki’s movies are a box office hit in Japan. Here in the United States, 5 out of 10 top grossing anime movies belong to Miyazaki.
