Baltimore Sun: Famed Anime Director Hayao Miyazaki Retiring

Hayao MiyazakiThe Baltimore Sun is reporting via Reuters that Academy Award winning anime director Hayao Miyazaki is retiring.

He is best known for his 1993 Oscar-winning hit Spirited Away, but he’s also earned a cult following in the United States for such films as Kiki’s Delivery Service and Princess Mononoke.

His studio announced at a news conference at the Venice Film Festival that The Wind Rises will be his last movie.

Miyazaki’s movies are a box office hit in Japan. Here in the United States, 5 out of 10 top grossing anime movies belong to Miyazaki.
